You’ll be stepping into a role that directly shapes the quality and trustworthiness of a large, public‑facing digital service used by exporters across Australia. This is a hands‑on testing role where automation, manual testing, accessibility and performance all matter equally.
You’ll be joining an established team with an existing incumbent in the role, so there’s context, continuity and support but also room to make the space your own and lift testing maturity even further.
What you will do
Build and evolve a testing approach that covers functional, performance and accessibility testing from end to end
Design, develop and maintain automation frameworks from the ground up, while also improving what’s already in place
Create and run automated API, UI and integration tests that give the team confidence to release often
Carry out manual and exploratory testing where automation doesn’t tell the full story
Work closely with developers, designers, product managers and content specialists so quality is part of every sprint not tacked on at the end
Embed testing into CI/CD pipelines and make test results visible and meaningful to the team
Test across browsers, devices and assistive technologies to ensure a consistent, accessible experience for all users
Validate business requirements and user stories against what’s delivered
Run performance and scalability tests to identify risks before users do
Produce clear, practical test reports that highlight quality, risks and readiness
Coach and support other team members to write, run and maintain tests when needed
Continuously look for better ways of working, improving tools, coverage and processes
Technologies you will work with
Test automation tools such as Selenium, Katalon, ACCELQ or similar
CI/CD pipelines built in Azure DevOps
API testing tools including Postman and SoapUI
Performance and load testing tools such as JMeter or equivalents
Test management tools for tracking test cases, defects and releases
Web technologies including HTML, XML, JavaScript
Back‑end technologies such as .NET, C#, Java, Groovy
Platforms including Azure DevOps, SharePoint and Dynamics 365
Agile/SCRUM and DevOps ways of working
You should have
5+ years of hands‑on experience in both manual and automated testing
Proven experience building and maintaining automation frameworks from scratch
A strong understanding of test strategy, test planning and quality metrics
Experience translating manual test cases into reliable automated scripts
Confidence improving existing automation frameworks and scripts
Experience running automated tests in Azure CI pipelines and reporting results
Hands‑on testing experience across web and desktop applications, and infrastructure changes
Familiarity with accessibility testing and WCAG 2.1 AA compliance requirements
The ability to clearly communicate test outcomes, risks and recommendations
Experience mentoring or supporting junior testers or team members
The ability to work independently, juggle priorities and stay calm under pressure
Comfort working across both Agile and Waterfall environments
Nice to have
Exposure to Government Digital Service Standards or similar frameworks
Strong programming or scripting skills in JavaScript, C#, Java, Groovy or Python
Practical experience with performance and load testing tools and techniques
Experience working on high‑profile or public‑facing digital services
